Lucy Girl

Lucy is a Belgian Malenois Shepherd mix. She is almost 3 years old and t 1/2 weeks ago she was hit by a truck and the tire mangled her right rear leg. We rushed her to a vet where someone met us and got her stable until the vet could look at her the next day. We knew that she would lose her leg because there was no way to save it according to what we saw. The next day they amputated ehr leg and we brought her home. After about 5 days she got an infection which was almost septic, she went back to vet and they administered IV antibiotics. That was Friday, on Sunday the Dr. went in for some odd reason and thankfully he did because when he got there they saw that her main artery had opened due to the stitch being dissolved by infection. He immediately performed emergency surgery and tied it back off, and thus saved her life yet again. The next day her infection was much better. She had a transfusion 2 days before and had to have another one. After a week at vet and on antibiotics through IV she came home and is now doing wonderfully. She is practically running everywhere. She is a miracle for sure. I am thinking of using her as a service dog now to visit wounded warriors!!!I Love Lucy!

  1. awwwwww what a pretty girl!! That is great that the vet went back in.. otherwise.. *shudder*
It really does amaze me how well these dogs do on three legs!! We, as humans, could learn a thing or two from them!
Keep us posted on her adventures… It’s sad that she became a Tripawd due to an accident… but thankfully you don’t have that #$$*%&^ Cancer to deal with.
She will lead a long happy life as a damn cute Tripawd!!

  2. Welcome to the Tripawd group. I am so sorry that Lucy has had a tough time up til now. Sounds like she is on the right track now and will make great improvements. Way to go Lucy

  3. A miracle indeed! GREAT story, GREAT dog and GREAT pawparents!!

Soooo lad your sweet, beautiful Lucy is doing well! A very determined dog with a very strong will! Excellent job Lucy!!

I know it’s a challenge to keep her quiet for awhile as she feels so much better. She’s a big girl and she doesn’t need to be overdoing it—-but hard to tell her that!

Look forward to more wonderful updates! We love photos around d here—especialy when the subject is as pretty as Lucy!

    GOOD JOB LUCY:-) 🙂
